How do you stay consistent in your Christian life?
If there comes a time when your faith will be put on trial, will you be able to stand up for it? Are you the same Christian from today, tomorrow, and next week? How consistent are you in living your faith?
In today’s sermon, Pastor Serge Santos shares with us yet another powerful message. This is a continuation of the sermon series, Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World. Today’s highlight is about Consistency as Christians living in this ever-changing world.
Are you consistent? Here are the marks of a consistent Christian:
#1: Consistently Christ-like
In 1 John 2:6, John the Beloved said, “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” And likewise, in another book in the Bible, Apostle Paul strongly declared, “You are to imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. ” (1 Corinthians 11:1)
This means that when you are living consistently as Christians, our ultimate goal is to become like Christ – in the way He walked, He talked and He loved. That being said, our standard of living and loving is none other than Jesus Christ.
So, ask yourself, am I living like Christ? If you are in a situation where you don’t know what you’ll do, stop and ask yourself, “What will Jesus do?”
You will find your answers in the life of Jesus and how he dealt with situations through the entire gospel book.
#2: Consistently Caring
Being the most lovable apostle that he was, John the Beloved particularly pointed this out in 1 John 2:10. He said, “Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble.”
He proved his case further by saying “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” (1 John 4:20)
But if you follow John’s logic, it’s true! If you can’t love someone whom you can see, how is it possible for you to love someone who is not here and who is not with you?
Now, as you evaluate yourself, let me ask you this question, do you love ALL your brothers and sisters just as Jesus loved them? Are you willing to care for them the same way that Jesus cared for the woman in the well and the hungry 5,000?

) #3: Consistently Confident
As John the Beloved continued, he said this with confidence, “I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.” (1 John 2:14)
He is confident that they have overcome the evil one. Why? Because He believes in God – not by strength nor by power but by the Spirit of God.
Paul expressed the same confidence in Philippians 4:12-13 as he said,
“ I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.“

When we live in this world, we should be consistently confident, not of our own strength or abilities. We ought to be confident because of what God has done for us.
It is this confidence that allows us to say, “If God is for me, then who can be against me.”
We ought to be confident in the promises that God has given us – that He is faithful and just to fulfill all those promises to us, in His good time.
Now, you may have prayers that have not been answered yet. Take time to think about this. Are you confident that God is faithful and that He will answer your prayers in His due time?
Where do you put your confidence?
#4: Consistently Consistent
At the culmination of it all, one question remains. How can you be consistently consistent?
In Matthew 5:37, it says “But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” It may not be how it’s usually used, but you can see that it talks about consistency.
How firm do you stand your ground? Are you a Sunday Christian? Are you a weekend Christian? Or are you an everyday Christian?
Being consistently consistent comes out of how firm we have put our faith in Jesus Christ. If we have surrendered everything to Him, our life and everything in it will not matter, especially when tribulations come.
In the popular words of Paul, we can reflect this as he said, “For to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).
Stay Consistent – Jesus Got You!
Can we say the same? How consistent are we in our faith? During personal trials and problems, do we stand firm in God? When we get tested, do we run to Jesus with confidence?
